  • About Dr. Urig

    Dr. Urig has always felt a calling to help people. Thankfully, he had a strong support system to encourage him along the way: his parents demonstrated a strong work ethic, and with his mother being a nurse, doctors were a constantly positive and surrounding influence. Dr. Urig knew he wanted to enter the rewarding field of healthcare. For over 30 years, Dr. Urig has made a difference in the lives of patients of all ages and conditions. He has never lost his passion for helping people!

    First and foremost, Dr. Urig wholeheartedly believes that taking care of patients is a privilege. He is honored to be serving generations of families in the Santa Fe, NM, area. He is always ready to answer any questions and make his patients feel as comfortable as possible. Dr. Urig is truly passionate about his patients and finds joy in helping each one that comes through his doors.


    Dr. Urig completed his undergraduate education at the University of Northern Colorado before going on to complete his master’s education in biochemistry from the University of New Mexico. In 1981, he graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.


    Dr. Urig completed his general dentistry residency at the Brockton VA Medical Center at Harvard before completing a prosthodontics residency at the UCLA Dental School Wadsworth Medical Center. Finally, he completed a third residency with a focus on oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Iowa.

    Dr. Urig is board-certified by the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

    Community Involvement

    As the Section Chief at the local hospital, Dr. Urig worked at the Cleft Palate Clinic for 28 years, treating children with cleft and craniofacial anomalies. Dr. Urig continues to volunteer at the Villa Therese Catholic Clinic, dedicating his time to those who are unable to afford treatment.

    Personal Life & Interests

    Raising two children with his wife in Santa Fe, NM, Dr. Urig feels blessed to spend his time outside of work with his family. He also enjoys a good workout and spending time in many outdoor activities like tennis, hiking, skiing, and golf.
